Hello all. Well I finished up my week at the beach. The mixed English and Brazilian group changed to an all Brazilian group and me, for one of those days at the beach. I have never been so quiet. The speed at which people, any people, speak in their own native tongue makes it difficult to pick up what is being said. However, they made every attempt to bring me into conversation and keep me connected. Truly great, caring people. On my final day with this group, I was presented with a gift of Havianas (flip-flops) from Will, who knew mine were stolen and wanted me to leave with a way to remember them. What a way to be nice to the Gringo! Much appreciated.
Yesterday, I got the Brazilian equivalent of Montezuma´s revenge. Lovely. Today, I´m better. I flew and slept and am now in Salvador. I am looking out the front of my hostel at the Ocean. Beautiful view. Just spoke with one of the owners of the hostel. He grew up in Philly, 21st and Spring Garden. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This is good, because this hostel has very few English speakers. Salvador is more of what some would call the Real Brasil. I plan to explore some, but I leave in a couple of days for Lencois to explore the Chapada Diamantina. Hiking, waterfalls, all that outdoorsy stuff. I will take more pictures and post them.
Also, for those who were wondering, yes everything they say is true. The Brazilians, men and women, are beautiful. A day at the beach is like visiting some bizarre model and athlete convention. Wow.
